SoHo is turning into a hip area and to reflect on the surge of new comers to this area, this residential
complex incorporates a climate responsive material on the exterior creating a kinetic facade.
The Hygroscope panels [designed by Achim Menges] relies on the organic quality of wood to shift in shape based on the humidity and temperature, without having to rely on high tech mechanisms. The hexagons open and close based on the weather, causing the facade to constantly change, as well as creating a rich light experience on the interior.
